Here’s some quick motivation for your Monday – especially if you feel stuck.
Do you love the rush of a new pencil as much as I do?
There’s nothing like the feeling of opening a new can of paint, playing your first chords on a new guitar or taking a new camera lens outside to see how your view changes.
For me, new tools lead to new creations.
I spent this past weekend building a fence. The whole project began when I grabbed a brand new carpenter’s pencil from the garage and sharpened it. I ha old, dull pencils lying around, but this was a big project. I needed motivation. A fresh, sharp orange pencil was enough to get me started.
New doesn’t have to cost you a thing.
Sometimes for me it’s as simple as trying a different logo concept in a new document, rather than cramming a new idea into my existing document. White space. New possibilities. Shaking off old ideas.
I tuned my guitar differently and wrote two new songs in a day. Something just unlocks in my brain when I introduce something new into my process.
How long has it been since you tried something new, or introduced a new tool or practice into your creative practice?
What new element can you bring into your work this week?
